In the Offenbach Saal, two competitions were on the programme – the Seniors III B Standard and the Adults II C Standard – both of which kept the audience on the edge of their seats right until the end. In both the Seniors and the Adults II categories, the skating rules proved decisive in determining the tournament winners.
Senior III B Standard
Fourteen couples competed in the Seniors III B Standard category, battling it out through the preliminary round, the intermediate round and the final for the tournament title. In the final round, Ingo Wolf/Hiltrud Malambrè from TTC Rot-Gold Köln and Yves Hartheiser/Dr Agnes Gaspari from Switzerland were locked in a close contest. In the end, both couples were tied on points, so it was only the skating rules that tipped the balance in favour of the Cologne couple.

Adults II C Standard
In the Adults II C Standard, too, the result was a close call. Of the 13 couples who started, seven qualified for the final after the preliminary and intermediate rounds. Johannes and Nell Dürholt from TSA d. TV Eiche Horn 1899, as well as Josef Roth / Anna El-Serazh from TSV Grün-Gold Erfurt, finished the tournament with identical scores. It was only the skating rules that ultimately decided the outcome in favour of the Bremen pair. The battle for the remaining places was also tight: Daniel Holzinger / Sandra Kuhfus from Aachen secured sixth place, just ahead of Christopher Stenzel / Jana Mischon from VfL Bochum.
